Below is a list of some frequently asked questions, but feel free to call our South Naperville dental practice at 630-904-1106 if you need additional information. We are always pleased to assist you.

Will my dental insurance cover my treatment?

It depends on the treatment and the type of dental insurance you have. Dental benefits plans vary widely and most plans are designed to share in your dental care costs. Dental plans usually cover between 50 and 80% of dental services. We recommend you review your dental insurance policy before your visit.

Our financial coordinator will be happy to assist you with dental plan questions. However, we may not be able to predict what your level of coverage for a procedure will be. This is because plans offered by the same employer or written by the same third-party payer can vary according to the contract involved. We recommend that you contact your employer or insurance company for specific questions regarding your plan coverage or if you have a problem with a reimbursement level.

We’re here to help you. Before any treatment, we sit down and discuss all fees and financial arrangements with you. We accept cash, check, and credit cards, including MasterCard, Visa, and Discover Card. If you need extensive dental services, we can also help you arrange financing through Care Credit.

The American Dental Association recognizes the important role dental benefits have played in improving access to dental care for millions of Americans and is working with insurance policy makers to help set better standards within the industry.

What is UCR?

Under a UCR (Usual, Customary and Reasonable) plan, patients are usually allowed to see the dentist of their choice. These plans pay an established percentage of the dentist’s fee or pay the plan sponsor’s “customary” or “reasonable” fee limit, whichever is less. The limits may or may not reflect the fees that area dentists charge.

It may also be noted on your bill the fee that your dentist has charged you is higher than the reimbursement levels of UCR. This does not mean that we are overcharging you. The insurance company may not have taken into account up-to-date, regional data in determining a reimbursement level.

There is no regulation as to how insurance companies determine reimbursement levels, resulting in wide fluctuation. Insurance companies are not required to disclose how they determine these levels. The language used in this process may be inconsistent among carriers and difficult to understand.

Annual Maximums

Your plan purchaser makes the final decision on “maximum levels” of reimbursement through the contract with the insurance company. Even though the cost of dental care has increased over the years, the maximum levels of insurance reimbursements have remained the same since the late 1960’s.

Preferred Providers

Your plan may want you to choose your dental care from a list of their preferred providers. Whether or not you choose your dental care from this defined group can affect your levels of reimbursement.

Least Expensive Alternative Treatment

Your dental plan may only allow benefits for the least expensive treatment for a condition. For example, we may recommend a crown, but your insurance may only offer reimbursement for a large filling. The least expensive alternative is not always the best option for your oral health.

Pre-Existing Conditions

Your dental plan may not cover conditions that existed before you enrolled in the plan. Even though your plan may not cover certain conditions, treatment may still be necessary.

Treatment Exclusions

Your dental plan may not cover certain procedures, or preventative treatments such as sealants that can save you costs later. This does not mean that these treatments are unnecessary. We can help you decide what type of treatment is best for you.

A comprehensive oral evaluation is the first step to gain a complete understanding of your current oral health. A new patient evaluation usually takes approximately one hour.
